Book Project #2

 In the book ,Tandem by Anna Jarzab (non-fiction), the theme is that sometimes in life you do things that you really don't want to do to help others. Sasha doesn’t really have a choice wither or not to help but she does have a choice wither or not to tell them about her visions to help them find the princess. She tells them out of the kindness of her heart and also by the fact that helping them may mean that she is able to go back home sooner. 

She at first is set on going away and not helping these people in any way because they took her away form her home. But, when she learns about the whole Universe thing and about how her visions weren’t just random dreams shes been having all the time she wants to say and find out why  she can see these visions . She also wants to make sure that Grant , the real grant, gets home with her safely and that when she leaves they have the real princess back.

Sasha is a very strong and brave young women , she takes this on without fighting back and putting up a fight with them and Thomas really admires her for that. Thomas is very smart and helped the general plan out this whole plan to get Sasha from her home and bring her to his universe to make her act like the princess while they find her. He cares for her and feels bad for her but he hopes she realizes that they did this because if they hadn’t war would have become the only answer and they did not want that.

 Sometimes in life you do things that you really don't want to do to help others. Sort of like what Sasha had to do to help them get their princess back and kind of like what Thomas had to do by ripping Sasha away from her home and making her come in and act as the princess to make sure order is kept and no war has to start.

•    She meets Grant at the library •    Grant asks her if she wants to go to prom with him •    they go to prom and later go to the beach •    Grant gives her a bracelet •    She falls a sleep and later wakes up in an unknown place •    They tell her that she is in another universe that looks exactly like earth and that “grant” isn’t really grant his name is Thomas •    She finds out that in this world she is a princess and that she can't leave until they find the princess •    She has to act like the princess for 6 days and then she may leave •    she starts having visions of what is happening to the princess •    They start to use her visions as information as to where to find the princess.

Grant (Thomas) •    He  was only acting as grant to get Sasha to his universe. •    He really is an elite officer for the Royal family •    He is very smart and caring •    He never wanted to hurt sasha but he just wanted to make sure everything stayed at peace in his home Sasha •    she is surprised that “grant” would talk to her •    She is scared by the fact that she is in another universe that looks like earth •    she is very brave for going trough with all of this even though she is scared in the inside •    She is also very surprised that the visions she's been having all this time were visions of what was happening to the person she is in the other universe.

The Pearl

 In the Pearl by, Jhon steinbeck he uses the characters in the story help with the theme , by helping move along the story with events that involve them. The theme is that greed can make you do things that you thought you'd never do. Kino was a nice and caring man in the beging before he even got a hold of the peral. Kino and his wife were poor and when their son got bitten by a scorpion ,they needed money to pay for the doctor. They found the pearl and that pearl has made kino do things he would have never done before. He hit is wife one time becuase the peral was his only important thing he cared about and he didnt want anybody to take that thing away from him.

My Folktale

  My father and mother where watching T.V out in the living room. I got really bored & went to go ask my brother something.When I opened the door I caught him starting to crawl out the window, I ask him "where are you going?", he turns around to look at me & says "to a party, mom & dad said no but Im going anyway.Im going now but you have to promiseyou won't tell them." I would never lie to mom and dad but I guess covering for my brother won't hurt me , so I just said"ok" then walked out. He didn't come back until in the morning and when he did he came in my room and said "Thanks,for covering for me , I owe you one."  The next day he told me he was going out again & to please cover for him , i just walked away & said "sure". Mom had come home & was calling for my brother, I went downstairs & told her that he was feeling so good, so he went to sleep early. Neither my mom or dad asked me anymore questions about him for the rest of the night. My brother had been going out more often and I had to cover for him all the time. On friday night I was doing my homework , when I hear my brother calling for me. He tells me his going to go out again and that to pleases cover for him & I just say "you have to stop going out so often , im running out of stuff the say to mom & dad". Later on that day mom & dad come upstaris to check on me and they ask " where is your brother ? when we went to go check on him he wasn't there." I make up one of the stupidest lies and my dad goes out looking for him . When my dad comes back he says "your lieing to us young lady! How long have you been covering for him?" I just couldn't hold it anymore and I tell them everything , when I am all done they both look at eachother and tell me"I thought we thought you better than to lie to us". In that instant I feel bad for not telling them the truth. Now they wont have to same trust in me as they did before .

Poetry Response to "The Names"

 In the poem "The Names" by billy Collins the authors purpose in writing this poem is to tell you about all the lost lives . He says "let x stand, if it can, for the ones unfound". As for the lives not lost , he tells you about what they do in memory of all these people. I think the tone is depressed and mournful because he says "Heavy with dew like the eyes of tears, and each had a name....".
